About Morioka Kita Senior High School
About our school Motto;
師弟和 熟 (Shi Tei Wajuku) is our school motto. Shi (師) symbolizes teachers and Tei (弟) represents students. Wajuku (和熟) means a good relationship or harmony among people. In our school’s opening ceremony in 1974, the first principal, Niisato Mitsuru, quoted this phrase from a speech by Natsume Soseki. In his speech for the opening ceremony of Kyushu University, Soseki pointed out the necessity of education. He also emphasized the importance of teachers and students respecting and trusting each other. In our school, teachers and students can work together, support and respect each other based on this motto, while aiming for a better understanding of the world.

Message from the Principal
Morioka Kita Senior High School was established in 1974 as the fifth general course high school in the Morioka area. So far, more than 13,000 students have graduated from our school. The year 2023 is our fiftieth anniversary year, and we are currently preparing for several events to celebrate this milestone.
Our school motto, “Shi Tei Wajuku,” was introduced in the school’s opening ceremony by the first principal, Niisato Mitsuru. He quoted this phrase from a speech by Natsume Soseki, who was a famous writer, educator, and professor of foreign literature. Since the start of our school, the spirit of “Shi Tei Wajuku” has been passed down to us, students and teachers, as our educational philosophy. “Shi Tei Wajuku” originally means “teachers and students trust and respect each other in a harmonious relationship,” and working hard together with this spirit has been regarded as our tradition. However, in this modern society with the development of technology and significant changes in values, anyone can be a “teacher” or a “student.” With communication, students can have the role of a “teacher” and teachers can also be “students.” Teachers and students today are expected to have better communication skills than ever before. Therefore, it is necessary to focus on fostering the communication skills of students.
Our students are respectful and positive, committed to studying hard in a cheerful atmosphere. Many students work hard in their club activities as well as school events, our integrated learning program, “Cassiopeia Time,” and local volunteer activities. Through these activities, they can acquire “the skills to imagine, talk about and create their own future,” which are also aims that are included in our school policy.
Morioka Kita High School is a school which is progressing toward a bright future because of the hard work of its students and teachers. We very much appreciate the support of our students’ families and local communities and look forward to its future continuity.

Tanigawa Shuntaro, one of the leading poets in Japan, went for a walk around the school site while visiting Morioka, enjoying a view of massive Mount Iwate and the natural beauty around it. In the lyrics of our school song, you can also feel the poet’s awe, and imagine what inspired him.
Yuasa Joji, one of the influential Japanese composers of contemporary classical music, recalled his memory of composing our school song. He said, “In general, school songs don’t start with a melody in a minor key but this song does. However, this is not a sad song. Students can be proud of their school and sing the song in a cheerful and relaxed way. The melody turns into a major key when the lyric comes to ‘Warera Kyou (我 等 今日).’ After that, the song becomes more melodious, with the sound representing the students aiming toward a bright future.”
School Logo
Designed by Fukuda Takashi
Since our school has Kita, meaning North, in our school name, Fukuda decided to make a design based on the constellation Cassiopeia in the north sky. In the top half of the Cassiopeia shape, the Chinese character in our school name, Kita, can be read. The stars in Cassiopeia shine in the dark north sky and navigate students to find their way without losing their hope even if they encounter numerous difficulties, just as sailors in old times looked for the North Star to find their way. We believe in the words by Charles Edward Amory Winslow, that our hopes glow like stars in the heavens and the darker the sky, the brighter the stars. The width of the design symbolizes the thickness of books, which represent the depth of students’ academic interests.
