@Today, all the 2nd grade students gathered in the school hall. Mr. Furudate, vice manager of the department of assisting the Morioka City mayor, began with a lecture on urban city planning of Morioka City for the 21st century. He talked about the decrease in the population of Morioka and how they are going to take some measures against the problem. Second, three groups presented their inquiry activities on behalf of all the groups. After the presentations, they were given some advice by Paul Lukez, a former professor of MIT in Boston, who specializes in urban city planning. His advice inspired all the participants to learn how to present something efficiently. Finally, Mr. Lukez gave a special lecture on city planning. His English presentation was really analytical and impressive. He presented in a way that made them understand what he said easily. According to his lecture, what is the most crucial in city planning is "identity" based on the history each city has been cultivating for a long time. The planning should be made by cherishing existing unique buildings and nature. He also introduced some suggestions on restoration of Morioka castle and tidal power generation by taking advantage of the rise of sea level caused by global warming.
@After school, the second workshop before overseas fieldwork in Boston was held with Mr. Lukez and Mr. Ebina, a coordinator of our SGH inquiry activities. A group that decided the theme "sustainability" was directly instructed by Mr. Lukez because the theme has much to do with his field.
